Bad Axe Museum of Local History
The Bad Axe Museum of Local History ("The Allen House") is located at 303 N. Port Crescent Avenue.
It is open Sunday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated!

This 1902 Dutch colonial home was built by Wallace E. Allen, the town’s longest serving mayor. The home was owned by only one family and is nearly unchanged from its original configuration. Many of the homes original features are still as they were in 1902. The home is furnished with period antiques throughout.
The museum contains items and information related to the history of Bad Axe, it's businesses, residents and organizations.

Here is just a sample of some of the items on display from Bad Axe former resident, and Michigan's 29th Governor, Albert E. Sleeper.

An image of the kitchen showing an antique refrigerator and items that would have been used in the kitchen back then.

Here is a collage from President Nixon's last official public appearance in Bad Axe on April 10, 1974. Stop by to see more items!

See many women's articles of clothing in one of our rooms. Here are items from a Night at the Opera.

Bad Axe Historical Society
Brick Paver Fundraiser Project

The front sidewalk at Bad Axe Museum of Local History needed to be replaced due to deterioration, which caused it to become a hazard. The old sidewalk was replaced with beautiful brick pavers. As you approach the museum, bricks engraved with names of past and present families, businesses and individuals have been installed to add to the history of Bad Axe. They are available for purchase and would be a unique gift to share with family, friends, employees, or businesses to be a part of the memory and history of Bad Axe.
All Brick Paver purchases will include a one-year membership to the Bad Axe Historical Society.
Please note that although bricks are still available, they cannot be installed until minimum ordering requirements to have them engraved are met. When ordering, your patience is appreciated. Please also keep in mind we have limited open areas, so if you purchase multiple bricks, they may not be able to be placed together.
More information about the Brick Paver Campaign may be viewed via the order form.
