Tri - County History Workshop

Huron, Tuscola and Sanilac County Historical Societies

The Tri - County History Workshop is an event organized by members of museums in Huron, Tuscola and Sanilac Counties to give Thumb-area historians an opportunity to network, collaborate, and be educated in history museum matters.

Some of the many historians at the 2026 workshop gather for a photo.

On Wednesday, April 22, more than three dozen historians representing 19 historical societies from not only Huron, Tuscola, and Sanilac Counties, but also reaching as far as St. Clair County, gathered at Sherwood on the Hill for the Tri - County History Workshop.

Each society represented in attendance was given time to share a variety of things about their museum, such as their recent accomplishments and future plans and were also given an opportunity to highlight what makes their museum unique. After lunch, attendees of the Workshop expanded upon their previous knowledge of recruiting, training and retaining volunteers through a presentation by Dan Streeter, CEO of Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan. After the presentation, "flash table" discussions were held where everyone could choose a topic of their liking (from a variety of topics) and discuss their experiences and share ideas. The day made for the perfect atmosphere for our local historians to gather and network with other history-loving individuals.

The Huron County Historical Society would like to thank the following for helping make this years event a great success:

Our guest speaker, Dan Streeter, for furthering our knowledge on the many aspects of volunteers, which will help our organizations thrive in the ever-changing world.

The wonderful staff of Sherwood on the Hill, for hosting us and making us a delicious lunch of Navajo tacos and chicken wraps.

The many event organizers, for making this year’s workshop possible.

Last but not least, our local historians in attendance and abroad for their dedication to preserving and sharing our local history!

If you did not get a chance to attend this years workshop, we hope to see you next year!

Next years workshop is planned for April 10, 2027.
